The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) / German Academic Exchange Service promotes international academic relations and cooperation by offering mobility programs primarily for students and faculty, but also for administrators and others in the higher education realm. Since UMass is a partner school for the Graduate Study Scholarship and for the Research Grant, applications for these programs are submitted through UMass. For all all other DAAD programs (Undergraduate Scholarship, RISE, etc.) applications are submitted directly to the DAAD office in New York, following the instructions provided on the DAAD website.
The UMass processes for the Graduate Study Scholarship and the Research Grant are jointly managed by Regine John in the International Program Office (IPO) and by John Hagen in the Office of National Scholarship Advisement. It is highly recommended that you meet with either one of these individuals as you begin working on your application.
Applying for either the Study Scholarship or the Research Grant first requires completing the application form on line, then printing out the application and submitting four copies along with four sealed copies of a letter of recommendation to Ms. Johns in IPO no later than the UMass deadline
Step-by-step guidance for completing these applications for submission through UMass is provided in these documents
